Casa

casa is a great affordable French interior shop. I discovered it as a student living in Avignon. Like a lot of affordable shops, it was worth a regular visit to search out the gems… and gems you do find! I’m very lucky as my family now gets to spend our summers in France, staying with my mum, so yesterday I couldn’t resist a visit to casa. I’m helping my mum redesign and stage a flat for sale – I’ve done a scandi hygge design for it – and we found lots of casa gems to meet the brief. So I thought I would share my top casa gems with you. Starting with this scandi chair. It is gorgeous (we got 2 for the flat as they are completely on brief and budget friendly) and very sturdy. Also available in black. They have a similar one with thinner legs and a transparent seat. You get a discount if you buy 2 or 3. These yummy rattan items are very on trend. I love the stool. If you prefer the industrial style they have a great mini collection. The price here is for the large shelving unit back left. I love the wall […]

How to Marie Antoinette

Antoinette Annie Sloan

A few of you lovely people have asked how I come up with my room designs so I thought I would talk you through the creation of the Marie Antoinette tween bedroom. Like all good HMP designs, it started at my local charity shop where I was really feeling the rattan and came back with this gorgeous haul. I used the shelving units in my girls’ playhouse 1b but I only got the bedhead as it was too beautiful to leave in the shop. I had just been on my Annie Sloan painting course so I had a pot of Antoinette – a beautiful dusty pink – Annie Sloan chalk paint in the kitchen itching to be used. And the bedhead did call out for some pink, so after fixing it a bit (to make it symmetrical) I painted it and then waxed it with Annie Sloan clear wax. My eldest daughter was very intrigued by the bedhead and wanted to know more about this ‘Antoinette’ I was talking about. You see as a Frenglish family (French English) Antoinette is said the French way and sounded like I was speaking about a friend. Somehow the conversation when on to the fact that there was once […]

Melamine

M&S Dovecote Melamine Tesco Navy Pattern Melamine

In 1997, my Big Granny died. (I had a very tall granny and a short granny aka Big Granny and Little Granny.) My uncle asked if I wanted anything of hers. I was 17 at the time and not really sure what to take but a had a lovely memory of having dinner with my Big Granny and we had pudding in these cool – well cool for a Granny – Chinese inspired blue and white bowls, so I asked for them. They were the start of my china collection. From then on, I’ve only bought blue and white china. A wonderful mix matched collection and it doesn’t matter if something breaks as there’s no perfect set. So now we are settled in our new home, I’ve decided to build a melamine collection for outdoor dining and picnics. And I had to follow my mix matched blue and white theme. So here’s the beginning of the collection. Like my china collection I’ll add to it bit by bit as I see pieces I like but I guess the plus of melamine is, there shouldn’t be any breakage! The beautiful floral designed plates are from the new M&S outdoor collection and […]
