Pink and green

I love Frida Kahlo – her art and her strength which is such an inspiration – and my eldest now shares this love. I grew up with my mum saying: “Blue and green should never be seen, except on an Irish Queen.” Something which I repeat much to my daughter’s amusement. Why? What Irish Queen? Well my daughter very sweetly asked me if the saying could be adapted to “Pink and green should never be seen, except on a Mexican Queen” when she saw this photo, as she felt no one could ever pull it off as well as Frida! There has been lots of pink and green interior inspiration this last year. But I think these things build or do you just start noticing them more? Since looking at this photo, my eldest has asked if her next bedroom (the paint wasn’t even dry on the current redecoration!) could be a Frida inspired pink and green room, and now I am seeing pink and green everywhere! Here are some of my favourites from Instagram and Pinterest: This week Annie Sloan was equally obsessed with pink and green: in the first photo Amsterdam Green and Antoinette. And on her Instagram […]

Søstrene Grene

Sostrene Grene

I got a lovely Christmas Eve surprise today: I discovered Søstrene Grene. They opened a new shop near my mum in November in the shopping destination Polygone Riviera, Nice, France. And it was hard to tear myself away but I did take some photos before leaving to share with you. Søstrene Grene is a Danish shop started by sisters Anna and Clara Grene in 1973 with the aim of bringing ‘beauty to everyday life’. It is all the hygge you could want with beautiful Nordic colours – you know those moody dark pastels – and all at affordable prices. As soon as I got home I did some research and it turns out Søstrene Grene does have shops in the UK (well 3 to be exact: Belfast, Nottingham and Chester) but it is still relatively unknown on UK shores. The brand has already enjoyed success at home in Denmark and across Europe in Spain, France, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Ireland. You can’t buy or order their items online and their stock is limited so if you happen to come by one of their shops, pop in and snap up anything you fall in love with! If you read my blog, you’ll know I […]

Ultra Violet

Pantone Ultra Violet

Have you heard the news? PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet is colour of the year for 2018! This is big news and you will soon see it popping up in the shops on clothes and home decor items, and in the design magazines. “Inventive and imaginative, Ultra Violet lights the way to what is yet to come.” So here’s my take how you can introduce Ultra Violet into your interiors (and this is from someone who doesn’t like purple!). So to translate the PANTONE colour into paint, I started with the PANTONE reference: 18-3838 (HEX 645394 which translates to RAL 4005 Blue lilac – if you’re looking for some matching spray paint use this reference). The nearest match in the paint world is Dulux Purple Pout. Here I’ve pulled together a Dulux colour palette which you don’t need to be an interior designer to use. With Purple Pout at the centre, I’ve added a light green Fresh Sage and a dark green Buckingham. I’ve also added in some neutrals: my favourite grey Night Jewel 5 and my favourite pink Pink Nevada 6. If you love upcycling like me, I’ve added two Annie Sloan chalk paints to the palette: Emile and Henrietta. I came across […]
